The advent of technology has tremendously made things easier for Cebu Stamp Club, Incorporated (CSCI) in its quest to promote the hobby of stamp collecting or philately to a wider base of stamp collectors and enthusiasts.
In 1996 when the club started its operations, we recall that having a website was a very expensive thing to have. Communicating by Yahoo Messenger or even friendster was never the fad. Yes, we do have our email address then but not all people use it the way they do now.
This Year of the Rat, we have lots of exciting things to do. Just recently, the CSCI website http://cebustampclub.tripod.com was given a new look and a new website will be launched in the later part of the year that will feature complete photos of Philippine stamps from 1946 up to 2006. Well, this site won't offer catalog prices for the stamps portrayed though.
The monthly meetings are going to be held in the same venue and we are planning to have two or three exhibits this year and one competition among members. Quarterly Stamp exchanges and bourses as well as stamp auctions are going to be held in our meetings too.
With the Board of Trustees finally giving its stamp of approval to finally join the Philippine Philatelic Federation after years of deliberation, we look forward to be accepted and host a national philatelic event here in Cebu.
Cebu Stamp Club members are entitled to receive their membership i.d. card and number, the monthly stamp modules, the CSCI Newsletter, join competitions and exhibits, auctions and stamp exchanges and have the privilege of having their names and photos in our website and newsletter. We will be coming out too with a privilege card that will entitle paying members discounts from different shops and establishments in malls here in Cebu.
Those who are part of the Cebu Stamp Club friendster site are all entitled to receive a copy of the CSCI Newsletter every month upon request. We are thinking of coming out with a stamp exchange circuit for these individuals this year.
Whew! We all agree that it will be a very busy 2008 for us but we are going to have fun doing it with the passion and commitment to share the hobby to one and all!
